The Daga group was birthed in 1999. The idea was simple: Provide services on contract. Since the early 1990s, India's growing economy had witnessed a rise in demand for transport infrastructure and services. We decided to venture into an industry where the possibilities of growth for us, and the industry seemed endless. We started by contracting cabs to the Government officials. Slowly, we realized that there was a huge gap between the employers and the employable people. The employers were always in search of trained employees that required minimum supervision and the employable people very rarely knew where to apply for jobs. Most jobs were filled by references and there was no job security. Having found this opportunity, we also forayed into providing Security Guards, Clerks, Supervisors, Health Staff, and other trained Class IV personnel on contract basis to the Government.
Turning Point
As we started getting good feedback and reviews from our clients, we decided that the business needs to grow. We wanted to expand, diversify and establish the business so that we could cater to a larger customer bases. With the city expanding its limit, the need for public transportation had increased during this time. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation was eager to introduce new bus services to cater to the large mass of daily commuters. We introduced them to the idea of getting buses on contract from us. As this would reduce their investments and cut their losses related to depreciations, we were able to strike a deal. This Turning Point, of providing Buses on contractual basis to the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation came in the year 2005.
Journey
As per plan, we diversified and expanded our services and offerings by establishing different business organizations. As time passed, these family businesses thrived with a loyal customer & consumer base. While all the businesses operated under different names and catered to a different services, or customer segment, we realized that we needed to unify them all under the same brand name. This would help in maintaining the same set of business values and principles over all the companies, and also help customers identify and differentiate the brand as a whole. Thus, all the companies that were conceived by diversifying and expanding the business, were clubbed under the umbrella of “Daga Group.” Today, the Daga Group has companies working in Public & Private Transportation Sectors, Health Management, Waste Management, Automobile and Real Estate sectors.
